Last weekend we decided to take a trip to a place we’d only just come across, Smokehouse in Islington, and oh my how I wish we’d come across this sooner!
As we hadn’t planned ahead, we couldn’t book but decided to try our luck at getting on the waiting list when they opened at 6pm and, luckily, it paid off. A quick stroll around the neighbourhood and a drink or two later at The Canonbury nearby, we took our seat in the dining area.
I started with the deep fried oysters, roast bone marrow and beef dripping toast. Delicious, but too rich for me to finish!
My boyfriend opted for the smoked goat tacos. Being smoked, the meat was tender and very tasty.
Next up was the main course, and definitely the best dish of the evening, the short rib bourguignon with the most delicious mash. We also ordered a couple of sides, duck baked beans and chargrilled hispi.
By this time we were both absolutely stuffed, but couldn’t resist the sound of the smoked strawberries with cream cheese mouse and praline.
I had a sneaky look at the brunch menu on the way out and all I can say is that I’ll definitely be back!
